Multi-instrumentalist and acclaimed composer Stephen Kent hascarved a deep groove in multiple genres of contemporary music pioneering the use of the Australian Aboriginal Didjeridu (Didgeridoo) in the modern world. Stephen came to the Didjeridu while Music Director of Australia’s Circus Oz, traveling deep into the bush and seeking permission from Aboriginal elders to bring the ancient instrument to the contemporary world.

Stephen presents a performance exploring the ancient magic of the Australian Aboriginal didjeridu, a long, hollowed tube instrument made from a tree truck. Stories from Dreamtime (part of Aboriginal culture that explains the origins, the earth, and its people) are mixed with virtuoso live music, cultural history, a lesson in circular breathing and sounds of the Australian bush.

Stephen presents a workshop in didjeridu-making and teach participants some basic playing techniques including circular breathing and animal sounds.

Indigenous cultures celebrate the close relationship to the lands they live in through their music, stories, songs, and art. Taking inspiration from those living traditions, Stephen is joined by Dolores R Gray a contemporary mixed media artist, to weave music and art, poetry, collage, chanting and the didgeridoo with students to explore their own stories and identity in the contemporary world.
